Engaging with people with disability

People with disability will have a say in how the Strategy is working. The Engagement Plan shows how we will do this.

Engagement Plan

The Engagement Plan will make sure people with disability have a say on how the Strategy is implemented, monitored and reported on. The Engagement Plan features the following:

  • The Advisory Council, which gives advice to Australian, state, territory and local governments, and to disability ministers.

  • A number of public forums and consultations are being held from 2022 to 2031 and include:

    • National public forums will be held in 2022, 2025 and 2028 so people can have a say in shaping the work of the Strategy.
    • In 2023, 2026, 2029 and 2031 there will be a forum held in one of the states or territories.
    • Public consultations are being held as part of the two Strategy evaluations.
    • In setting up these forums we will talk to disability organisations so we can best support and reach people with disability, so they can have their say.
  • This website, Australia’s Disability Strategy Hub, has been created to make it easier to locate the latest information on the Strategy.
  • We are making Good Practice Guidelines for the Engagement of People with Disability. These guidelines will have practical advice on how to engage effectively with people with disability.
  • We will review and update the Engagement Plan as needed to keep it relevant and up-to-date over the life of the Strategy.
