Health Care Card
If you get a payment from the government (eg a Disability Support Pension), you might also get a Health Care Card. This can help you get cheaper medicines and also gives you concessions on things like public transport tickets, taxi fares and your utility bills (eg electricity). You don’t need to apply for a Health Care Card – if you are eligible, you will be sent a card.
Carer Adjustment Payment
This is a one-off payment to families who can’t get other income support when the family is going through significant adjustment because of the care needs of a child. You might be able to get this payment if you care for a child aged under 7 years who has recently been diagnosed with severe disability or a severe medical condition.
Carer Payment
This payment provides income support if you can’t work because you care for someone. You might be able to get this payment if you provide constant care in a private home for someone with a severe disability or severe medical condition or who is frail and elderly, and if you aren’t away from them for more than 25 hours a week to work.
Carer Supplement
This supplement is a yearly payment to help with the cost of caring for a person. You might be able to get this payment if you get a Carer Payment or a Carer Allowance.
