If you live in a rural or remote area, you may be able to access subsidies through PATS to go towards the cost of travel and accommodation when you have to travel to see you nearest medical specialist.
Patient Assistance Travel Scheme
The Patient Assistance Travel Scheme (PATS) is a NT government subsidy program that may be able to provide you with financial help for travel and accommodation expenses if you need to travel a long distance to see an approved medical specialist.
Patient Assisted Travel Scheme
If you live in a rural area and need to travel more than 100 kilometres one way (or 70 kilometres each way) for a specialist medical appointment you may be able to get support for travel and accommodation costs incurred through PATS.
Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme
If eligible, you may be able to access financial assistance to travel to specialist medical services not available locally.

Interstate Patient Travel Assistance Scheme (IPTAS)
If you meet the eligibility criteria, ACT IPTAS can provide you with financial assistance towards travel and accommodation costs to permanent residents of the ACT who are required to travel interstate for specialist medical treatment that is not currently available in the Territory. You may be eligible for subsidised travel Australian Capital Territory.
Patient transport schemes
You may be able to get subsidised transport services if you need to travel to get treatment that is not available in your area. Some schemes include accommodation. You can also talk to the hospital or medical centre you go to, because they may have some advice about where to go for transport help.
