Covid-19 financial help
If you’re impacted by COVID-19, you may be eligible for financial help depending on your situation. The rules are different for each payment.
Child Disability Assistance Payment
This is an annual payment to help with the cost of caring for a child with disability. You might be able to get the payment if you get a Carer Allowance.
Ex-Carer Allowance (Child) Health Care Card
If you have been a carer in the past, you may be able to get this card. It allows you to pay less for medicines and has other concessions. It is for people who are aged between 16 and 25 years, are full-time students and were receiving a Carer Allowance Health Care Card when they turned 16.
Australian Thalidomide Survivors Support Program (the Program)
If you are a thalidomide survivor registered with the Program, the Thalidomide Support Service can help you with accessing support under the Program, including claiming from the Extraordinary Assistance Fund (EAF) and the Health Care Assistance Fund (HCAF). The Thalidomide Support Service can also help survivors to register and receive support from the NDIS and other relevant services and schemes.
Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme
This scheme provides a payment to help with the extra study costs for your children. You might be able to get this payment if your children can’t go to a state or public school because they live in an isolated area, have disability or have special health needs.

Veteran Card
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs provides Veteran Cards to eligible veterans and their families. Depending on the type of card, these entitle you to free or cheaper healthcare, and discounts on medicine, transport, and water and energy bills.
Youth Disability Supplement
You may be eligible for an extra payment if you’re a young person with disability and on an income support payment.
Young Carer Bursary Program
This is financial help to reduce your need to have a part-time job if you are studying or training and taking care of someone. You might be able to get this payment if you are aged 12–25 years or under, in high school, or at university or TAFE.
Work Assist
This payment can help you to stay in work if you risk losing your job through illness, injury or disability.
