Have your say: Review of Best Practice in Early Childhood Intervention

The Australian Government Department of Social Services has engaged the University of Melbourne and consortium partners to review best practice and develop a framework for best practice in early childhood intervention for children with developmental concerns, delay or disability.

This framework will assist children with developmental concerns, delay or disability, and their families, to receive appropriate supports. This project is a key part of the Early Childhood Targeted Action Plan (EC TAP) under Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031

The consortium delivering the project will be led by Professor Christine Imms of the University of Melbourne in partnership with Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI)Professionals and Researchers in Early Childhood Intervention (PRECI)SNAICC – National Voice for our Children, and Children and Young People with Disability Australia (CYDA).

The department is working closely with the University of Melbourne-led consortium and a broad range of organisations in the sector to ensure the best possible start in life for children with developmental concerns, delay or disability. Please visit Early Childhood Targeted Action Plan action 2.4 to learn more about the project.

This project is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2025.

The department encourages everyone with an interest in contributing to the framework to engage with the University of Melbourne and consortium partners. To receive progress updates or to be involved in consultations, please register your interest or email official_ecireview@unimelb.edu.au.
