In control our way: supporting NDIS self-management
The project aims to establish a series of resources to assist if you are interested to learn more about NDIS self-management or keen to move from agency or plan management to self-management.
Somerville Disability Services Program
Somerville offers supported independent living services to people with disability living in the Northern Territory. This includes accommodation, and help with household and gardening chores.
Brain Injury Australia - Resources and Information
Resources and information to help people with brain injury including personal finance, mental health support, and more.
Local Area Coordinators (LACs)
Local Area Coordinators (LACs) can link you to the NDIS and to mainstream and community supports in your area. You can ask your LAC about the supports available in your community, even if you're not eligible for an NDIS support plan.
Work Assist
This payment can help you to stay in work if you risk losing your job through illness, injury or disability.
Young Carer Bursary Program
This is financial help to reduce your need to have a part-time job if you are studying or training and taking care of someone. You might be able to get this payment if you are aged 12–25 years or under, in high school, or at university or TAFE.
Veteran Card
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs provides Veteran Cards to eligible veterans and their families. Depending on the type of card, these entitle you to free or cheaper healthcare, and discounts on medicine, transport, and water and energy bills.
Offsets and rebates
Tax offsets (sometimes called tax rebates) reduce how much tax you pay on your taxable income. If you are disabled or care for someone with disability, you may be able to reduce your tax.
Payments for students and trainees
If you’re studying, training or doing an Australian Apprenticeship, you may be eligible for Youth Allowance for students and apprentices, Austudy, ABSTUDY or Assistance for Isolated Children.
Pensioner Education Supplement
If you already receive a payment from the government (eg a Disability Support Pension), this supplement can help you to find a job by completing further study. It helps with the costs of full-time or part-time study in an approved course.
