You may be eligible to receive help with travel costs for work, study or looking for work if you have a disability, illness or injury that means you can’t use public transport.

Jobseeker

There could be financial help if you’re between 22 and Age Pension age and looking for work. Jobseeker could also be for when you’re sick or injured and can’t do your usual work or study for a short time.

Health Care Card

If you get a payment from the government (eg a Disability Support Pension), you might also get a Health Care Card. This can help you get cheaper medicines and also gives you concessions on things like public transport tickets, taxi fares and your utility bills (eg electricity). You don’t need to apply for a Health Care Card – if you are eligible, you will be sent a card.

Financial Information Service

A free service is available through Services Australia that can inform and educate you about your finances. You can book and watch free financial education and information webinars to help plan for the future.

Financial decision making for people with disability

Public trustees and guardians can be appointed to make financial decisions for people that have a decision-making disability.
 

Ex-Carer Allowance (Child) Health Care Card

If you have been a carer in the past, you may be able to get this card. It allows you to pay less for medicines and has other concessions. It is for people who are aged between 16 and 25 years, are full-time students and were receiving a Carer Allowance Health Care Card when they turned 16.

 

Energy supplement

If you get a payment from the government (eg a Disability Support Pension), you might also get the Energy Supplement. This helps with energy costs (eg your electricity and gas bills).

Micro Enterprise Project (MEP) can support people with disability to start their own small business which is aligned with their own passion and skills.

Disability Support Pension

You may be eligible for the Disability Support Pension to provide you with long-term (ongoing) financial support if you are aged over 16 with a physical, intellectual or mental condition that stops you from working.
