This Strategy will drive changes over the next ten years so people with disability can participate in all areas of Australian life.
Created with the involvement of people with disability and their representatives ...
the Strategy has seven outcome areas addressing what we have said is important to us.
We want ...
Good job opportunities and a good income.
To live in accessible and well-designed homes and communities.
For our rights to be promoted, upheld and protected, so we are safe and equal.
Access to support, so we can live independently and do things in the community.
Access to inclusive education and learning that helps us reach our full potential.
Good health and wellbeing for our quality of life.
The last outcome area is about improving community attitudes ...
towards people with disability ...
so everyone understands the positive contributions we make.
The Strategy is about improving all areas of life ...
to make sure I’m included ...
respected ...
equal.

What does the Strategy do?
The Strategy’s vision is for an inclusive Australian society that ensures people with disability can fulfil their potential, as equal members of the community. The Strategy sets out practical changes that will assist people with disability.
In line with Australia’s commitments under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the Strategy helps in protecting, promoting and realising the human rights of people with disability.
The Strategy:
- Provides national leadership towards greater inclusion of people with disability.
- Guides activity across all areas of public policy to be inclusive and responsive to people with disability.
- Drives mainstream services and systems to improve outcomes for people with disability.
- Engages, informs and involves the whole community in achieving a more inclusive society.
What are the seven Outcome Areas?
The Strategy has seven Outcome Areas. These are the areas people with disability said need to improve. The Outcome Areas are:
- Employment and Financial Security
- Inclusive Homes and Communities
- Safety, Rights and Justice
- Personal and Community Support
- Education and Learning
- Health and Wellbeing
- Community Attitudes.
