Reporting progress
We do regular reporting on how the outcomes in Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031 are going. We do this to show:
- what has changed
- how changes were made
- where we need to improve.
Where we get data
We collect data to check how the Strategy outcomes are going. We then use the data to do reports.
When we talk about data, we mean:
- facts
- information
- records.
We collect data from:
- Australian Government agencies, including:
- Australian Institute of Health and Welfare
- National Disability Insurance Scheme
- state, territory and local governments
- the Australian Human Rights Commission
- state and territory human rights and anti-discrimination bodies
- the National Disability Insurance Agency
- Disability Representative Organisations
- Australia’s Disability Strategy Advisory Council.
State and territory governments do reports for their disability plans. We include this information in the Strategy reports.
Milestones over the 10 years
The Strategy’s Roadmap shows when updates will be shared over the next 10 years, from 2021 to 2031. These updates help us check what’s changing and how governments are putting the Strategy into use.
Read the Roadmap - Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031.
The Outcomes Framework reports
The Strategy’s Outcomes Framework talks about what we need to track. This will help us know if things are improving for people with disability. The specific things to track are called measures.
The Australian Institute Health and Welfare (AIHW) website shows information about the measures used in the Outcomes Framework. Every year, they release a report that explains how things are going. The reports give a clear picture of the progress being made toward the outcomes we want.
The AIHW website is the Strategy’s ‘dashboard’ on outcome progress.

The Targeted Action Plan reports
Targeted Action Plans are part of Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031. These are the plans on what governments will do to help get the outcomes we want.
The reports shows:
- what actions have happened
- whether the targeted actions made a change
- what needs to improve.

The Implementation reports
The Implementation reports track the progress made by all levels of government. These reports happen every 2 years. When we do these reports, we gather information from a range of stakeholders taking action on the Strategy. This includes:
- state and territory governments
- local governments
- partners across the Commonwealth Government
- important stakeholders
- the Strategy’s Advisory Council.

The plan to improve data
The Data Improvement Plan supports the Strategy. It talks about improving the data we collect for the Strategy. When we talk about data, we mean:
- facts
- information
- records.
Governments are working together to improve data. If we have better data, we will have better tracking on how things are going.

The Data Improvement Plan is available in Easy Read, Auslan and community languages.
Evaluation reports
Australia’s Disability Strategy lasts for 10 years, from 2021 to 2031. During this time, there will be 2 major evaluation reports. They are planned for 2025 and 2029.
Independent reviewers will do these reports. They will include recommendations for improvement.
We expect to publish the first evaluation report in 2026.
The ADS Survey – Share with us
In 2022, the Department of Social Services commissioned the Australian National University to deliver 2 waves of the ADS Survey - Share with us. The survey measures community attitudes towards people with disability.
Attitudes are what you:
- think
- feel
- believe.
You can read the ADS Survey reports in data and research
