If your child has a disability that prevents independent travel and attends a specialist school, or you are unable to arrange transport to and from school you may be able to access support.

SpeakUP can help young students build skills and confidence to participate at school and achieve their goals.

Special Education

The NT Government website has information about special education, support services, specialist schools and centres.

Special Education Resource Unit

If your child has a disability or learning difficulty, you can access specialised teaching and learning materials and services to help support their learning.

Special needs transport for students (SNT)

If your child is eligible, this service can help them get from home to the closest appropriate school setting and from school to home (or respite / after school care depending on availability).

OnLine Training

The Department of Education offers a range of free OnLine Training courses for all school based staff across NT Government, Catholic and Independent Schools. The courses are suitable for those who work in schools and specialist settings, such as teachers, learning and support teachers, teaching assistants and school leaders.

Preparing for tertiary studies or work

Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training The NDIS pre-planning toolkit can help you get ready for Higher Education or Vocational Educational and Training studies. You can access resources for students with disability through the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET).

Professional learning

Professional learning is available for teachers, such as implementing classroom adjustments and upholding obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act and the Disability Standards for Education.

NDIS – support to attend school

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can support your child with daily school activities, including transport, eating and moving around. You can access equipment like a wheelchair or assistive technology, such as hearing aids.
